Goldey-Beacom announces women's soccer schedule

From GBCathletics.com:

It has been almost two years without soccer at Goldey-Beacom and that will change in 2021 as the women's team finally returns to the pitch, competing against what should be yet another challenging schedule.

GBC always has played against top teams and that is no exception September 2, when the squad's first game in 657 days is versus a Bloomsburg team which closed the 2019 campaign ranked sixth in the country.  Opening weekend at home continues two days later against Daemen.

The squad then embarks on a four-game road swing.  That includes the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opener September 16 at Chestnut Hill and September 22 at Holy Family, which last spring was nationally ranked.

Two strong foes for the Lightning every year will make a 2021 appearance at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.  GBC hosts Wilmington (DE) on September 29 and entertains Georgian Court on October 12.

The CACC schedule ends November 3 against reigning-champion Jefferson and the regular season concludes the next day versus Lincoln (PA).

The top eight teams compete in the CACC Tournament with the quarterfinals on November 9 and championship weekend taking place in Waterbury, CT from November 12-14.

Senior forward Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway) is one of many key players back who is coming off an impressive 2019, ending that season eighth in the nation with a school-record 12 assists (first in the CACC), ninth with 0.6 assists per game (first in the CACC), 11th with 2.3 points per contest and 11th with 46 points (second-best mark in team history).  The two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree enters this year tied for seventh in team history with 14 assists, ninth outright with 20 goals and ninth with 54 points.

Junior forward Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) has been an undeniable presence during her time, displaying incredible athleticism that has made her one of the region's toughest players to defend.  Always capable of changing the game's outcome at any point, Speaks is a two-time first team all-league pick and in 2017 was tabbed both CACC Rookie of the Year and CCA second team all-region.

Junior forward Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) also will be a factor this season, demonstrating both the ability to set up plays and putting the ball in the back of the net.  A multi-faceted competitor who has brought the team consistently strong play the last two seasons, Immediato was tabbed first team all-league in 2019, second team in 2018 and second team CCA All-East Region both seasons.

Senior Kelly Mejia (State College, PA) for three years has been an undeniable presence on the back line.  The 2018 campaign saw her named CACC Defensive Player of the Year, first team All-CACC, first team CCA All-East Region and second team United Soccer Coaches All-East Region.  The 2019 saw her tabbed second team All-CACC and to the league's all-tournament team.

Senior forward Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, PA) in three seasons has started 54 of the 59 games she has competed, giving the Lightning strong play at forward.  A great goal scorer and a solid passer, she closed 10th in the CACC during the 2019 campaign with five assists and 46th with seven points.

Goldey-Beacom (11-7-2, 8-3-1 CACC) in 2019 had yet another solid campaign in which its overall wins fell one victory shy of the school record, its eight home victories also is one short of a team mark and outscored its opponents 61-31.  The squad played in the CACC Tournament a school-record sixth straight year, hosted a quarterfinal game for a program-best fourth consecutive year and advanced to the semifinals for a third straight year.
